Walkley Awards App created with WoodWing and Adobe Publishing Suite

The first-ever Walkley Awards App is a showcase of Australia’s finest journalism: winners and finalists in 34 Walkley Award categories across print, radio, television, photography, digital, books and documentary is now available in the Apple App Store.

The free iPad App profiles the best in journalism over the past year, offering an interactive journey through the year’s biggest news stories:

• Galleries by Australia’s finest press photographers
• The best television stories, camerawork and interviews
• Audio excerpts of the year’s best radio stories
• Leading print news reports, feature articles and opinion

“The Walkley Awards Presentation is one of the few events that brings journalists from
rival networks and publications together to celebrate excellence in journalism,” said
Walkley Advisory Board Chair Laurie Oakes.

“The Walkleys App showcases the best in journalism and emphasises the combined power
of the news media to set the agenda and help create a better society by reporting, analysing and commenting on matters of public interest,” Mr Oakes said.

The Walkley Foundation developed the App in partnership with WoodWing, Creative
Folks and Adobe, which provided the multiplatform design software. The partnership
demonstrates the important synergy between journalism and the creative industries.

Adobe’s Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand, Paul Robson, said Adobe was
excited to partner with The Walkley Foundation for the inaugural Walkley Awards App.

“The Walkley Awards recognise the best in Australian journalism and Adobe is excited to partner with The Walkley Foundation for this year’s event,” Mr Robson said. “The new App has been developed using Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite which allows traditional publications to be transformed for the digital world.”

Creative Folks Sales and Projects Director Andrew Lomas said the tablet format is the perfect platform for showcasing the talents of Australian journalists from across all forms of media in a single publication. “By using the WoodWing workflow we were able to collaborate with the Walkley team to compile all the various rich media content in a quick and dynamic manner before easily pushing the packaged content to the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite platform which was ready for live release on the night,” Mr Lomas said.

The app was released on Friday 30th Nov at 11pm immediately after the awards and is now available in the Apple App Store.
